Building Manuals for Nepal
Updated: June 2015
Between May and June of 2015 Smart Shelter Foundation has written three manuals for low tech earthquake resistant techniques, based on our own school projects that all have survived the earthquakes. The manuals have been reviewed by several members of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI). SSF is also contributing to their updated rubble stone masonry manual, which will be distributed within Nepal.
SSF wrote and updated its manuals on the following topics:
- Improving the overall building quality
- Earthquake resistant schools with rubble or mountain stones
- Earthquake resistant schools with hollow concrete blocks
If you would like to receive these manual as a document please send us an email via the contact page, and let us know how and where you’re planning to use it.
Important note! Please keep in mind that it took us years of on-site presence to gain this knowledge and expertise. To build earthquake resistant, and especially to do so in a developing country, requires specific and in-depth knowledge. We always advise to seek proper technical assistance and experienced supervision for such specific building related projects.
